Clogged Drains & Drain Cleaning in Ventura, CA
Family-owned drain cleaning since 1976. Hydro-jetting, video inspection, sewer line clog location — no travel fee, no phone tree, no runaround.
There’s nothing more frustrating than a drain that won’t drain — except a drain that won’t drain over and over again. Clogged drains back wastewater into your home, take fixtures out of service, and almost always come back if you only treat the symptom. Since 1976, AAA Paradise Plumbing & Rooter has been clearing drains across Ventura County the right way: find the cause, fix it once, and stand behind the work.
We handle everything from a slow bathroom sink to a backed-up main sewer line. Our trucks roll with the right tool for the job — hand augers and small machines for branch lines, full-size sewer cables and hydro-jetters for mains, and a sewer-line camera when the cause needs to be found, not guessed at. And there’s never a travel fee.
Signs You Need Drain Cleaning
Most stoppages give you warning before they become a full backup. If you’re noticing any of these, it’s time to schedule service:
- Water draining slowly from one or more fixtures, especially after running for a while.
- Gurgling sounds from drains or toilets when you flush or run another fixture.
- Foul odors rising out of sinks, showers, or floor drains.
- Water backing up into a sink or tub when you flush the toilet or run the washing machine.
- Multiple fixtures clogging at once — almost always a sign the issue is in the main line, not the branch.
- Repeat clogs in the same spot. If a drain clears for two weeks and clogs again, the cause is still in the line.
What Causes Clogged Drains
Knowing what’s in the line tells us how to clear it — and how to keep it clear. The four causes we see most often in Ventura County homes:
Grease and food waste in kitchen lines
Cooking grease cools and hardens inside the pipe. Over time it coats the walls, traps food particles, and narrows the line until it stops draining. Hot water alone won’t fix it once it’s set up. Hydro-jetting scours the wall back to bare pipe.
Hair and soap scum in bathroom lines
Hair binds with soap residue and forms a mat that grows from the trap outward. Once it reaches the branch line, it catches everything downstream. Most bathroom clogs respond to a proper auger run — not chemicals.
Tree root intrusion in sewer mains
Older clay or cast iron sewer mains in established Ventura neighborhoods give roots an easy way in through joints and small cracks. Once roots are in the line they keep growing. A camera inspection confirms it, hydro-jetting cuts and flushes the root mass, and in severe cases we recommend trenchless replacement.
Sediment, scale, and pipe corrosion
Hard water leaves mineral scale on the inside of the pipe. Over the years it can narrow a 4-inch line to half its original diameter. Combined with corrosion in older galvanized or cast iron, that’s a recipe for chronic backups that snaking alone can’t solve.
Why Store-Bought Drain Cleaners Are a Bad Idea
The chemical drain cleaners on the supermarket shelf are mostly sulfuric acid or sodium hydroxide (lye). Three reasons we tell every homeowner to stay away from them:
- They don’t fix the cause. They might chew a hole through the clog enough to drain temporarily, but they leave most of the material in place. The problem comes back — usually worse.
- They damage your plumbing. Sulfuric acid erodes pipe walls, joints, gaskets, and the finish on toilets and metal drain assemblies. We’ve replaced plenty of fixtures that died years early because of repeat chemical use.
- They’re a health hazard. The fumes irritate eyes and lungs, and any splash on skin causes serious burns. They’re also rough on the environment once they leave your house.
Hydro-jetting does the same job permanently, without acid, and without damaging the pipe.
How We Clear Your Drains
Every job is a little different, but the process looks like this:
- Diagnose, don’t guess. We start by listening: which fixtures, how long, how often, what’s changed. If the clog has come back before or the symptoms point to the main, we run a sewer-line camera before we touch anything.
- Match the tool to the job. Branch lines (sinks, tubs, showers) usually want a hand auger or a small drum machine. Main lines and recurring clogs want a full-size sewer machine or hydro-jetter. We carry both.
- Clear the line, then clean it. Clearing makes the water flow again. Cleaning — usually hydro-jetting — takes the cause out so you’re not calling us again in a month.
- Verify with the camera. On main-line work we run the camera one more time to confirm the line is clear end-to-end and to spot anything that needs a longer-term fix (root intrusion, a belly, a collapsed section).
- Upfront pricing, no surprises. You see the price before we start. No travel fee, no “found something extra” line item at the end.
Why Ventura County Homeowners Choose AAA Paradise
We’ve been answering drain calls in this county for fifty years. The crew you meet today is the same family that started the company in 1976, working alongside the third generation.
- Family-owned since 1976. The dispatcher who picks up at 2 a.m. is not a call center in another time zone.
- Licensed, bonded, insured. CA Contractor License #323929. Every job, every crew, every truck.
- No travel fee. Ventura to Calabasas, Ojai to Goleta — we don’t bill you for the drive.
- Upfront pricing. You approve the price before we start. We don’t add line items at the end.
- 24/7 emergency response. Drain backups don’t wait for business hours. Neither do we.
- Right tool, right call. Snake, jetter, camera, replacement — we recommend what your line actually needs, not what the truck is carrying.
Drain Cleaning FAQs
For most Ventura County homes, every 18 to 24 months is a good baseline. Homes with older cast iron or clay sewer lines, lots of tree cover, or a history of repeat backups benefit from annual cleaning. If you’re noticing slow drains, gurgling, or odors more than once a year, your line is telling you something.
A drain snake (auger) cuts a hole through the clog so water can flow again. Hydro-jetting uses high-pressure water to scour the entire pipe wall — removing grease, scale, sediment, and root intrusion. Snaking is faster and cheaper for simple stoppages. Hydro-jetting is the right call for recurring clogs or main sewer lines.
Most over-the-counter drain cleaners use sulfuric acid or sodium hydroxide. They only chew through part of the clog, leave the cause in place, and erode pipe walls, joints, and fixture finishes over time. The fumes are also a health hazard. Professional drain cleaning solves the problem at the source without damaging your plumbing.
No. We’ve never charged a travel fee in Ventura County. You pay for the work, not for our drive.
Yes. We carry full-size sewer machines and hydro-jetters and can run a sewer-line camera to locate the cause — whether that’s root intrusion, a belly in the line, a collapsed section, or just years of buildup. If the line is too far gone to clear, we can quote trenchless replacement on the same visit.
